The institution has been providing specialized psychiatric care to residents of Sumy and neighboring regions for almost 200 years, preserving its history and traditions.
Currently, the hospital is the largest facility in Sumy Oblast (region) offering specialized psychiatric assistance. The hospital has a capacity of 560 beds and receives 200 visits per day across three outpatient departments. The facility includes a main hospital with 400 beds located in Romny, as well as two branches with 80 beds each in Sumy and Okhtyrka, which were integrated into the main hospital in 2020.
To fulfill its core functions, the Romny hospital operates seven inpatient departments, including 15 beds for narcology, 20 beds for palliative care, and 45 beds for patients subject to compulsory medical measures (CMM).
The Romny branch also features:

- X-ray department;
- Dental clinic;
- Psychotherapy and functional diagnostics offices;
- Intensive care unit;
- Two mobile teams – palliative and psychiatric multidisciplinary.;
The Okhtyrka and Sumy branches each have two inpatient departments and an outpatient department. In 2022, the hospital treated 6,938 patients in its inpatient departments.
Additionally, the State-Owned Enterprise “Regional Clinical Specialized Hospital” has a division dedicated to agricultural production and the rehabilitation of patients, located in the Kolisnyky village of Romny district. This division is responsible for cultivating crops, grain farming, and maintaining cattle and pigs.
As of the beginning of 2022, the company had an approved staff of 675.5 positions, which decreased to 648.25 positions by the beginning of 2023.

The institution serves as the base for the State-Owned Enterprise “Sumy Vocational Medical College” for postgraduate education of junior specialists with medical education in the field of “Psychiatry,” both for the medical staff of the institution and the region. Every year, nearly 60-65 medical nurses working in psychiatry undergo qualification enhancement courses.
