First Department

Characteristics of the first compatible acute psychiatric department (with beds for the application of compulsory medical measures) of the Communal Non-Profit Enterprise of the Sumy Regional Council “Regional Clinical Specialized Hospital.”

Purpose – to provide highly specialized psychiatric medical care to individuals with mental disorders, residents of Sumy region and other regions of Ukraine. Assistance is provided by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, psychologist, psychotherapist, with the involvement of doctors from related specialties: neurologist, ophthalmologist, therapist, dentist, gynecologist, surgeon, dermatovenereologist, and social and legal support staff.

Structure

The first compatible acute psychiatric department (with compulsory medical measures beds) is designed for 80 beds, including 5 beds for patients (women) subject to compulsory medical measures.

The correct assignment of the regimen, placement of patients in departments, and determination of their mental state make it possible to prevent socially dangerous actions.

To conduct comprehensive supervision of individuals receiving psychiatric care, the department has separate chambers with different types of supervision:

  • Chambers #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 – differential supervision regime;
  • Chamber #10 – for patients subject to compulsory medical measures;
  • Chamber #6 and 11 – individuals requiring round-the-clock special supervision (tendency to escape, self-harm, suicide, socially dangerous actions, etc.).

In addition to chambers, the department has 2 doctors’ offices, 2 nursing stations, 2 procedure rooms, 2 dining areas with distribution, a room for the nurse-housekeeper, showers, and toilets for patients and medical personnel.

Staff

The department’s activities are based on the Law of Ukraine “On Psychiatric Care” adopted in 2000, which defines the general legal and organizational principles of providing psychiatric care to citizens, prioritizing the rights and freedoms of individuals, establishing connections between the executive authorities and local self-government bodies with the bodies providing psychiatric and legal assistance, legal and social protection of individuals with mental disorders.

The department has 2 doctors:

Dmytro Oleksiyovych Lisovik – head of the department, psychiatrist with the highest qualification category, 20 years of work experience;

Oleksiy Volodymyrovych Kalachnykov – psychiatrist with the first qualification category, 15 years of work experience.

There are 20 junior medical specialists with medical education, including:

  • 1 senior medical nurse;
  • 1 stationary procedure nurse;
  • 18 ward medical nurses.

All medical nurses have qualification categories:

  • Highest – 11 individuals;
  • First – 6 individuals;
  • Second – 3 individuals.

The department’s team has created comfortable conditions for patients.

Great attention is paid to creating a favorable environment that will enable patients to return to their normal lives quickly. The department constantly works on improving the provision of medical-rehabilitative measures, taking into account modern global experience in providing assistance to users of psychiatric services.

The medical staff does everything possible to diversify the time patients spend in the department and ensures that patients are more confident in themselves and their recovery.

Services

  1. Treatment of borderline neurotic-psychotic disorders with affective disorders.
  2. Treatment of exacerbations of chronic mental illnesses.
  3. Treatment of behavioral and personality disorders with manifestations of social maladaptation.

Depending on the mental state, individuals receiving psychiatric care are assigned:

  1. Free movement and communication regime (open-door regime);
  2. Differential supervision regime;
  3. Continuous supervision regime.

Professional Development

The department has a diverse patient population, so regular training sessions are held with medical professionals on proper supervision of patients in various conditions, improving attitudes toward patients and their families, in accordance with the Law “On Psychiatric Care” dated February 22, 2000.
