Conference “Schizophrenia Treatment at All Stages of the Disease” and “Mental Disorders Due to War.”

On June 20, 2023, doctors from the Regional Clinical Specialized Hospital participated in a conference that covered two important topics simultaneously: “Schizophrenia Treatment at All Stages of the Disease” and “Mental Disorders Due to War.”

The conference was opened by Dmytro Oleksandrovych Mangubi, a psychotherapist, psychiatrist, and candidate of medical sciences with 20 years of experience. He began his presentation with the fundamental methods of treating schizophrenia at all stages of the illness.

One of the main aspects of the conference was the classification and review of medications for effective schizophrenia treatment. The symptoms of the disease and the review of accompanying psychiatric disorders were discussed. Special attention was given to the compatibility of medications during treatment and the necessity of an individualized approach to prescribing schizophrenia treatment.

The conference also addressed medications and the specifics of maintenance therapy for schizophrenia, as well as methods to prevent disease recurrence.

The second part of the meeting was continued by Dr. Iryna Hryhorivna Mudrenko, a Doctor of Medical Sciences, associate professor of the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurology, and a psychiatrist. She talked about mental disorders that arise due to war and the psychopathology of disorders during the military period. She emphasized that between 20% and 40% of military personnel may require psychological assistance. The topic of diagnosing and treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is prevalent among military personnel, was also discussed, highlighting the importance of psychotherapy in PTSD treatment.

At the end of the meeting, the doctors expressed their gratitude for the informative and useful presentations to their colleagues, which will undoubtedly be valuable in their practice. They also called for collaboration to exchange experiences and acquire new knowledge.

The conference proved to be a valuable source of information for psychiatrists and psychologists, who gained a wealth of useful information and unique experience in treating schizophrenia and managing mental disorders, especially in the context of war.
